Australian Share Registries
Last Updated on April 3, 2026 by Admin
A share registry is an organisation that maintains the official record of a company’s shareholders and administers ownership related functions on behalf of the company.
It tracks who owns shares, how many shares are held, and records any changes in ownership resulting from trades, transfers, or corporate actions.
Share registries play a critical role by:
- managing issuer sponsored shares
- managing dividend payments and Dividend Reinvestment Plans (DRP)
- facilitating shareholder communications
- processing corporate actions (e.g. rights issues, share buybacks)
- ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
They act as the central record-keeper of legal ownership, supporting both companies and investors in the efficient administration of equity securities.
